A/Prof Riffat earned his robotic accreditation at the University of Pennsylvania in 2015 and applies it to selected throat cancers and severe sleep apnoea, alongside laser surgery of the airway and voice box.

A/Prof Riffat completed his surgical training and a Master of Surgery in Sydney, then an advanced fellowship at Cambridge University Hospitals in adult and paediatric airway, cancer and thyroid surgery. He returned to Westmead, where he directs ENT training and runs the tracheostomy liaison service.
He holds academic appointments at the University of Sydney, Western Sydney and Macquarie universities, and is registered as a specialist in both Australia and the UK.
